Walnutport police seek binding arbitration in contract talks

Published September 15. 2011 05:01PM

The Walnutport Police Force Association has filed paperwork for binding arbitration with the Borough of Walnutport concerning the 2012 police contract. The officers' current contract expires Dec.31.

In a statement, the association said, "We submitted our first proposal to borough council at the end of June and have not heard back from them. July, August and up to Sept. 8 have gone by and not a word. We have received no counter proposal from them or a list of dates to meet with them to discuss a new contract."

The association contends, "Binding arbitration will be very expensive to the citizens and businesses of the community. We have no idea why they have let this get to this point. It is financial irresponsibility on their part and a slap in the face to police officers of the department."
