A Carbon County man is facing several criminal charges stemming from an incident at a county school.

State police at Lehighton said Todd John Mertz, 54, of Lehighton, was arrested on Monday, Sept. 12, on three counts each of theft by unlawful taking or disposition and receiving stolen property.

The arrest is the result of an investigation into the theft of several pieces of floor tile, a space heater and five gallons of diesel fuel from the Towamensing Elementary School at 7920 Interchange Road, in Towamensing Township. Troopers said the incidents occurred over the period of Jan. 1 to July 27.

Mertz was arraigned before duty District Judge Casimir Kosciolek, of Lansford, and released on $5,000 unsecured bail.
