A Lansford man was airlifted following a one vehicle accident that occurred Monday around 10 a.m. on Penn Drive, SR443, in Mantzville, West Penn Township.

While driving east, the driver, Joseph Arieta, 53, lost control and his vehicle violently impacted with a tree on the eastbound side of the road.

The car, a blue Subaru Impreza, came to rest on its side in the middle of the road.

West Penn firefighters had to use hydraulic equipment to cut the roof and extricate Arieta from the vehicle. Arieta was taken via PennStar to St. Luke's Hospital, in Fountain Hill. West Penn Police officer Dale Osenbach is the investigating officer.

Fire police detoured traffic onto Mantzville Road for the duration. Arieta's condition wasn't available as of press time today.
