McCann school helps homeless

On September 8, students enrolled in the Human Services Program at the Pottsville Campus of McCann School of Business and Technology will be sleeping outside to raise awareness for the plight of the homeless. Students will be sleeping in the parking lot of the Main Campus Building located at 2650 Woodglen Road, Pottsville, from 5 p.m. Thursday until 8 a.m. Friday, Sept. 9. Students enrolled in the Human Service Assistant Program are training to work as direct care staff to individuals facing a variety of socio-economic factors, including homelessness. According to Shannon Brennan, McCann Campus Director, "this project is an excellent opportunity to shine a spotlight on a problem that many in our community feel is limited to only urban areas."

In researching this project, students came to realize they are very few resources for homeless individuals in Schuylkill County," said Human Services Program Director Amanda Hartz. Currently, there is no homeless shelter in the County. Schuylkill Community Action, which has limited resources, is one of the few county agencies with funds allocated for homeless individuals. All funds will be donated Schuylkill Community Action. For more information about McCann School of Business & Technology, please contact the Pottsville Campus at (570) 622-7622 or log onto
