A sanitary sewer main replacement project will cost Palmerton over $111,000.

Borough council unanimously agreed on Thursday to award a contract to R-III Construction, Inc., of Nazareth, in the amount of $111,505.That bid was $20,431 less than the next lowest proposal of $131,936, turned in by Dirt Work Solutions, LLC, of Slatington earlier in the week.The project will consist of the removal and replacement of about 480 lateral feet of 10-inch terra cotta sanitary sewer main with new 10-inch PVC sanitary sewer main; remove and replacement of existing brick manhole MH 34A with a new precast concrete manhole; reconnecting new sanitary sewer main to the existing sewer main, service laterals, and existing manhole MH 39, and installing a new precast concrete manhole.It will also include spot repairs to existing sewer mains at eight different locations throughout the borough, as well as excavation; removal and disposal of all existing excavated material; aggregate backfill; and site restoration.Borough manager Rodger Danielson said the project is a component of the rehabilitation of the borough's sewer plant.Danielson said the project will be paid from the borough's sewer capital project fund.In other business, council:- Agreed to open an account for the wastewater treatment plant construction fund.- Approved a resolution to designate New York Mellon Trust Company, N.A., as the paying agent for the wastewater treatment plant bonds.- Announced the borough has received two Requests for Proposals for its pension investment plan, which will be presented at a future meeting.- Renewed its sludge disposal contract with Waste Management.- Approved a handicapped parking request for Frederick Young at 432 Delaware Avenue.- Approved a handicapped parking request for Scott Wetzel at 523 Columbia Avenue.- Denied a handicapped parking request for Kevin Houtz at 664 Franklin Avenue.- Denied a handicapped parking request by Blue Mountain Health System for one additional handicapped parking space in the 100 block of Columbia Avenue.- Approved a request by Fire Chief Dennis Behler to take several vehicles to participate in the 104th annual Northern Lehigh Halloween Parade this Saturday.- Announced it will hold its next monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22.
