Pleasant Valley's Denim Days raise money for charities
At the last Pleasant Valley School District school board of directors meeting, Dr. Douglas Arnold, superintendent, reported that there are currently 5,650 students enrolled in the district.
Recently, Dr. Arnold spoke with members of PVE, Chestnuthill and PVMS PTOs about the dire straits the district is having with the budget.
"I appreciated the opportunity to talk to these parent groups and we had good discussions, feed back and support, hearing that we're doing a good job. We all are working hard for the kids and we're blessed to have the community that we have. Hopefully we can stick together and get through these tough times."
Dr. Arnold said that Angela Frantz, a PVHS graduate and currently a hockey coach at the district, was hired as a counselor at Big Brothers, Big Sisters.
PV students and staff Denim Days raised $1,000 for Cystic Fibrosa and $1,400 for the American Heart Association.
Resident Charlie Rush donated his fossil collection to the high school's science department.
The Western Pocono Community Library's board of trustees requested approval from the district's board of directors of the following trustees board and was given the approval of the board, 7-0, Charles Hoffman and Russ Gould absent: Jacqueline Mock, fulfilling the remaining term of Tom Donnelly, whose term expires Oct. 2012; Carmela Heard, who will be replacing Arthur Illiano, whose three-year term expires in Oct. 2014; Dan Mauger, reappointed to a three-year term, which expires in Oct. 2014; Marian Mackes, reappointed to a three-year term, which expires in Oct. 2014.
