Over 23,400 pounds of electronics collected

Published October 20. 2011 05:01PM

Due to the combined effort of Carbon County, Lehighton Borough and Advanced Green Solutions, the two-day electronics recycling event held on Sept. 26 and Sept. 27 was a success.

The items collected from Carbon County residents and businesses weighed 23,472 pounds. These items included computer monitors, printers, keyboards, CPU units, VCR's radios, copiers, scanners, typewriters, CD and DVD players, telephones and circuit boards. All components were dismantled, reused and recycled in a safe environmental manner through Advanced Green Solutions.

Since the first collection event in 2005, Carbon County has recycled 272,207 pounds or 136,104 tons of electronic items. In addition, Advanced Green Solutions has saved the county and its residents over $81,000 by accepting most items at no charge.

"They have always been an excellent partner in helping the county accomplish our goals to help the environment," said Duane Dellecker, director of Solid Waste for Carbon County. "Many thanks are owed to Lehighton Borough for providing the use of their facility and equipment as well as to the residents of Carbon County who have once again responded favorably to another recycling program."
