Senior citizens

The Tamaqua Seniors met Oct. 13 at the Tamaqua Community Center with 78 members in attendance. President Jean Machamer conducted the business meeting and offered readings.

Rose Valle provided the invocation, entitled "This Land Is Ours." Secretary Joan Ann Garber and Vice President Doris Brobst provided reports. Gladys Weaver was added to the sick list and it was announced that Isabelle Brode is recuperating at home.

Upcoming events include a Chinese Auction on Oct. 27; pizza party sometime in November; Christmas party on Dec. 8, catered by Christy Joy.

The group meets every Thursday, at 1 p.m., at the community center.

Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join.

Every meeting is followed by social and pinochle games.

South Ward news

The South Ward Neighborhood Committee will meet this Thursday, at 7 p.m., in the South Ward Community Center, located in the South Ward Playground. Topics for discussion will include the schedule Oct. 29 Halloween On the Hill, a fun day event for children of all ages and the young at heart. Activities will include a costume/baby/pet parade. Hours will be from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. with a rain date of Oct. 30.

The public is welcome to attend. Volunteers are needed.

Halloween parade

Registration forms are now available for the 45th Annual Tamaqua Halloween Parade set for Tuesday, Oct. 25, beginning at 7 p.m. Forms are available at the Tamaqua Chamber of Commerce Office, 114 W. Broad St. Completed forms must include the name, address and phone number of a contact person, as well as the entrant's theme, number of floats, vehicles and marchers.

All participants will be called in advance of the parade with their position, set up location and entry number. The rain date is Wednesday, Oct. 26.

There is no entry fee. Cash prizes will be awarded for the top entries as determined by a panel of judges. Categories include Best of Show, Marching Units and Floats/Motorized.

The parade will once again be sponsored by the Tamaqua Lions Club, with assistance from the Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce. Participants will assemble at the east end of the borough by 6:45 p.m. and the line of march will then head west on Broad Street.

The Tamaqua Lions Club is also accepting donations of used eyeglasses, which may be dropped off at the chamber office.

St. Peter's Union

The Rev. Cheryl Moore will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship service Sunday in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. The special "Homecoming" service will offer, past, present and future church members an opportunity to connect/reconnect with the church family. A time of fellowship will follow. Sunday school classes will meet at 10:30 a.m.

Also on Sunday, the Confirmation class will meet at 11:30 a.m.; Daisies, Cub Scouts and Brownies meet at 6 p.m.

Activities for next week include: Monday, Women's Bible study meets at 6; Tuesday, theater rehearsal at 6:30 p.m.; Thursday, Prayer group meets at 5 p.m., Junior Choir at 7 p.m. and Senior Choir meets at 7:45 p.m.

Dinner theatre performances are scheduled for 6 p.m. on Oct. 28 and 29, and at 12:30 p.m. on Oct. 30.
