Tamaqua board attends to personnel matters

The Tamaqua Area School District took action on a number of personnel items during Tuesday's regular board meeting:

The Auxiliary Committee approved the following individuals as coaches, volunteer assistant coaches, and student game workers: Sean Cox, Hazleton, Assistant Swimming Coach #2, $1,000; Rick Rynkiewicz, Tamaqua, Volunteer Assistant Wrestling Coach; Amanda Solt, Tamaqua, Student Game Worker.

Kristen Tubbs, Palmerton, was approved as a Special Education teacher, Master's Step 2, at the annual salary of $42,588.

The following individuals were approved as substitute teachers: Erin Schmitt, Beaver Meadows; Heather DeLauretis, Tamaqua; Thomas Ferrence, Nesquehoning (retroactive August 29, 2011); David DeLong, Slatington; William J. Frantz, Allentown; Tim Demko, Mahanoy City. The list of approved substitute guest teachers includes Pamela Binder, New Ringgold; Lisa Frederick, New Ringgold; Andrew Kalista, Barnesville; Stacey Lipton, Pottsville; John Morrison, Pottsville.

The following resignations, absences, and leaves were approved: Theresa Christaforetti, paraprofessional, effective September 21; Ann Lagowy, high school teacher, Family and Medical Leave effective October 11 and conclude January 16, 2012, and a medical sabbatical for the second semester contingent upon submission of appropriate documentation; Amy Pester, elementary teacher, Family and Medical Leave; Robin Fink, high school teacher, FMLA; Eric Lech, resignation at a date to be agreed upon with Superintendent Carol Makuta.

In other matters, the board approved two additional payment installments to the McClure Company from the construction fund for ongoing work to district buildings with one payment in the amount of $1,755,531.00 and the second in the amount of $449,434.00.

Superintendent Carol Makuta also announced that a Veterans Day program will be held in the high school auditorium on Friday, November 11 at 7:30 p.m. The public is welcome.
