Families educated about car seat safety

Safe Kids Carbon County recently worked with Pathstone Head Start to educate families about car seat safety.

During the first car seat checkup, held behind the Head Start building in Coaldale, Head Start parents were able to bring their children and their car seats to get inspected by certified passenger safety technicians. A second car seat checkup for all Head Start families will be held in Lehighton from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., on Thursday.A number of Head Start families participated in the event. In addition to Safe Kids members, State Trooper Shannon Yorke of the Hazleton barracks was also on hand to inspect car seats and answer questions. The partnership was made possible through a $1,000 grant by Safe Kids USA and the Safe Kids Buckle Up program. The grant allowed Safe Kids to educate Head Start officials about child pedestrian, school bus and passenger safety through the "Train the Trainer" program. As part of the program, Head Start will then educate parents on these issues.
