Published October 14. 2011 05:01PM

Mayor Michael Sofranko of Jim Thorpe stated at Thursday evening's borough council meeting, that he received official notification from state Rep. Doyle Heffley regarding super loads or oversized loads in Jim Thorpe.

PennDOT will later be releasing more information about oversized loads traveling through town.

"It has been established that they (PennDOT) will notify the Jim Thorpe Police Department within 24 hours of the arrival (of an oversized load)," said Sofranko.

The 24-hour notification will give the police department and the borough the chance to notify residents to help make travel easier in town. The notification will be done through a one-call dialer system.

At Thursday's meeting, the Fall Foliage Festival weekends were also discussed. Jim Thorpe Police Chief Joseph Schatz said the Fall Foliage weekends have been "running smoothly."

The Jim Thorpe Police have been running different shifts at the festival to help keep order. The police have also been maintaining the traffic patterns through town.

Chief Schatz said that he is expecting a big crowd this weekend.

Also discussed, a meeting with David Peiffer (Hill Road) about the appeal of the Sewage Enforcement Officer decision will be held Monday, Oct. 31 at 6:30 p.m. at Memorial Hall.

Council announced that Jim Thorpe Trick or Treat night will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 26 from 6-8 p.m.
