Beautiful weather brings out crowds for JT fall foliage
VICTOR IZZO/SPECIAL TO THE TIMES NEWS The foot traffic in downtown Jim Thorpe during the 2011 Fall Foliage Festival rivaled the traffic on area highways this past weekend.
Clear blue skies and plenty of sunshine greeted thousands of visitors on the second of four weekends of the 2011 Fall Foliage Festival in Jim Thorpe this past weekend.
The event is sponsored by the Jim Thorpe Chamber of Commerce; and Executive Board Member and past President Dan Hugos noted that they had a very good turnout.
This, he explained, was aided by the positive weather hype that they received and that it was a shirt sleeve type of crowd with everyone relaxed and had a great time.
Hugos added, that by all reports, the vendors did very well and the chamber raised funds through the sale of T-shirts and hats which are made locally by Carbon Technical which employs disabled adults.
The Downtown, Broadway, and Race Street areas of the community were brimming with food, arts, crafts, and free music events at four different venues all within easy walking distance of each other.
Those music venues were located at Josiah White Park, Dimmick Memorial Library, Quarry Street, and the Opera House.
The Fall Foliage Festival has been redesigned to not just draw in visitors from out of town but to attract local residents as well to come see what a good time can be had at the festival.
So, if you missed all of this over the past weekend, you still have two more weekends to enjoy all that Jim Thorpe and the 2011 Fall Foliage Festival has to offer.
The festival continues on the weekend of October 15 and 16 as well as on the weekend of October 22 and 23.
So stop by, take in the beautiful colors of nature, the music, the history, a train ride with the family, the arts, crafts, and food at both the vendors and the local shops and restaurants.
There really is something for everyone at the Fall Foliage Festival in Jim Thorpe.
