Penn Forest man committed to jail

A Penn Forest Township man who told police he fired a warning shot from his 12-gauge shotgun after hearing a bang in his back yard was arrested by state police at the Fern Ridge barracks and committed to jail.

Christopher Allen Ohl, 34, of Cold Spring Road, penn Forest Streams, Jim Thorpe, was arraigned before District Justice Edward Lewis on a charge of recklessly endangering another person and disorderly conduct.

The incident happened at 9:45 p.m. Oct. 9. Police said they were called to the defendant's residence for a report of a disturbance and shots being fired. Upon arrival, police detained Ohl, who told them he fired one "00" Buck shot into the wooded area behind his home as a warning to whomever was in the backyard that promoted the bang he had heard.

He was committed to the Carbon County Correctional Facility, Nesquehoning, in lieu of $10,000 bail, pending a preliminary hearing scheduled for 3 p.m. Oct. 19 before Lewis.
