The Tamaqua Elementary Parent Teacher Organization will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 11 in the Tamaqua Elementary School Library.

The membership drive will continue through Oct. 31. Membership in the organization is required in order to participate in school functions.

The Raider Run will be held Oct. 14. The public is welcome to attend and support the students.

Last day for School Spirit orders will be Oct. 17.

The Rush Elementary Book Fair will be held Oct. 17-23. Family Night will be Oct. 19, from 6-8 p.m., in the Rush Elementary School Library.

A dance for students in grades 3-5 will be held from 7-9 p.m. on Oct. 28 in the Tamaqua Elementary School gym. Cell phones are prohibited.

Oct. 28 will also be Family Movie Night at the Rush school, for students in kindergarten through second grade. Gym doors open at 6:30 p.m., with the movie presentation scheduled to begin at 7:15 p.m. The feature presentation will be "Spooky Buddies."

Costumes are permitted. Canned good donations will be accepted to benefit the local food bank.

YMCA news

Volunteers are needed for a youth basketball program to be sponsored by the Tamaqua YMCA.

The Y will also sponsor a Halloween Dance for all ages, from 6-9 p.m., on Oct. 14.

Rush taxes

The office of Rush Township Tax Collector Dolores Walck will be closed Oct. 19 due to a township officials convention.

First Methodist

Due to the Tamaqua Heritage Festival being held on Oct. 9, this week's worship service in First United Methodist Church will be held Oct. 8, at 6 p.m., with the Rev. Jim Cavallero officiating.

The annual Charge Conference will be held Sunday, beginning with a pot luck dinner at 4 p.m.

District Superintendent Bron Yocum will lead the 5 p.m. worship service at the conference will begin at 5:30 p.m.

Activities for next week include: Monday, Jesus In the Steps will begin at 7 p.m.; Tuesday, quilters meet at 9:30 a.m.; Wednesday, Chancel Choir rehearsal will be held at 7:30 p.m.

The Bible study program "Prayers of Jesus" will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. and Wednesday at 10 a.m.

This will be the second in the series.

Calvary UM

The Rev. Brian Reading will officiate at this Sunday's 10:25 a.m. worship service in Calvary Evangelical United Methodist Church. Sunday school classes meet at 9:15 a.m.

Also on Sunday, an evening of praise, worship and Bible study will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Wednesday prayer and praise services are held at 7 p.m. in the church.

Bethany EC

The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Nursery care is provided.

Sunday school classes will be held at 9:30 a.m.

Also on Sunday, the "To Save Our Life Group Study," for grades 6-12, will meet at 7 p.m.

Activities for next week will include: Wednesday, Prayer time at 8:30 a.m., Tamaqua Youth Ministry will meet at 6:30 p.m.; Thursday, Men's Fraternity will meet at 6:30 p.m.; Saturday, Musician rehearsal at 9 a.m., Praise practice at 9:30 a.m.

Zion Lewistown

The Rev. Sunny Stock will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Zion Church in the Lewistown Valley.

Sunday school classes will be held at 9:30 a.m.

Zion's Women's Guild will meet at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
