A new salt shed that will store anti-skid materials is being constructed behind the Lehighton Borough Garage off East Penn Street.

The building is nearly complete and serves as a reminder that although we've experienced some unusually warm weather, winter conditions probably aren't too far away.

The structure has pre-cast concrete supports with wooden walls above them.

The shed is being built by Nimaris Construction of Bath and is nearly completed. Nimaris was one of four firms which bid on the project, offering the lowest quote of $57,633.75.

Elwood Reed of Lehighton, project supervisor, said the structure will service the road crews during the serious winter weather ahead.

The salt shed has a corrosion inhibitor added to the concrete wall sections, the concrete floor, and the apron.
