Mahoning Twp. to advertise for new fire engine/pumper

Published November 29. 2011 05:01PM

After two years of preparation and planning, Mahoning Township Fire Chief Mark Ebbert presented a dozen bid packages to the board of supervisors to advertise for the purchase of a new fire engine/pumper for the Mahoning Township Fire Department.

The board unanimously approved the advertising for soliciting bids for a new vehicle.

"We planned and worked on these bid specifications for two years and am happy to report we are ready to move forward with the bidding process," Ebbert said. "We are ready to advertise and accept bids."

Township Chairman John Wieczorek said the reason the township would be advertising the bidding on the new fire vehicle was because township funds would be used to cover the partial cost of the new vehicle.

"We set aside a quarter mill in a fund for fire protection and those funds will be what we use to help cover the cost for this new vehicle," Wieczorek said to solicitor Tom Nanovic, who concurred the township would need to take the lead on advertising for the vehicle.

When Wieczorek asked where the advertisement should be placed, Ebbert said he thought the TIMES NEWS would be sufficient.

"Many of these companies have representatives and companies that search media publications for this type of notice, so I think they will come and get them when they know they are available," he said.

Supervisor George Stawnyczyj moved to advertise for bids setting the deadline for placing bids on the truck for Dec. 27, at 3:30 p.m., with the bids to be opened at that evening's supervisors meeting at 6 p.m. The bids would then be reviewed and acted upon at the first meeting in January, which would be Jan. 9. The motion carried unanimously.
