The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission has provided Lehigh University with a special marker noting the university's founding by the Hon. Asa Packer 100 years ago at Bethlehem. Lehigh is observing its centennial anniversary through June of 1966. The marker will be erected at a main entrance to the campus on Dec. 29 at a special ceremony. The date is that of the birth of Packer, whose historic Victorian era mansion is located on Packer Hill in Jim Thorpe. He was born in 1805 in Mystic, Conn. and died in former Mauch Chunk in 1879.
