Deadline to report storm damage in Chestnuthill Township is Dec. 14

The Chestnuthill Township supervisors approved two new resolutions, 2-0. Supervisor Dave Fleetwood was absent.

Resolution 2011-10 was approved to appoint Cathy Martinelli, the Chestnuthill Township's office manager to file and sign paperwork for FEMA and PEMA for the Public Assistance process of getting reimbursed for damages and expenses occured from Hurricane Irene.

If anyone has sustained losses or damage from Hurricane Irene and/or Tropical Storm Lee, you may be eligible for disaster aid from FEMA. The deadline to apply for aid is Dec. 14, 2011. Call 800-621-3362 or the township office at 570-992-7247.

Resolution 2011-11 for MC 2011 Hazard Mitigation Plan for the next five years. It is designed to reduce the impact of disasters prior to their occurrence. This plan is required for any disaster funding. The prior plan has reached its expiration.

In the township's emergency management coordinator, Donald Zipp's monthly report, he stated that the West End Vol. Fire Co. received an award for community service from Pocono Alliance. It was for the department's training day care employees in fire prevention, fire safety and fire extinguishers. Each year the department trains several day care emoplyees at no cost as an effort to reduce risks in the community.

The report also said the West End Ambulance responded to 138 calls in October and West End Vol. Fire Co. responded to 110 calls in October.

The report stated that the Pennsylvania State Police responded to 288 calls in the township for October.

Supervisor Chris Eckert said that the state police "are very active in Chestnuthill and they're on the ball. They do a really good job."

"From time to time we get a push for a police department in the township. You can see by the low number of calls, it would be very costly to have our own department," Supervisor Chairman Chuck Gould said.

Old business:

*Bonser Dr. update-Chris McDermott of Reilly Associates and township engineer reported he has been to Mrs. Morales' property to investigate

*A 911 readdressing ordinance hearing will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 20, 7 p.m. at a bill paying meeting. Bid/s will be awarded for recycling

In new business, the board approved, 2-0:

*to authorize township solicitor Joseph McDonald to advertise for proposals to conduct the 2011 audit

*to authorize Dave Albright, township manager, to bid service agreements for Freon and recycling cleaning. They will be accepted up to 3 p.m. Dec. 27. The exisiting agreement expires Dec. 31.

The board approved, 2-0, to release $769,258.61 to Keystone Engineers for the Tractor Supply building project.

Resident Stuart Thody congratulated Chairman Gould for winning his seat in the recent election.

"I couldn't imagine not having your expertise at the meetings," he said.
