Tamaqua students raise record Thanksgiving donations

A record food bank donation of 1,523 cans and non-perishable items was raised by students, parents and staff of the Tamaqua elementary school in support of the Tamaqua Salvation Army's Thanksgiving and Christmas food drive.

The winning class was from Mrs. Mary Ann Herring 4th grade class. Volunteers with the Salvation Army had to use mulitple vehicles to pickup the large donation. Major Sharon Whispell said, "It is great to see our youth putting so much effort into helping the less fortunate." James Fasnacht, assistant principal, stated his appreciation of all the students, staff and parents that supported the elementary school's annual food drive.
