More than 250 families received a turkey and other holiday food courtesy of the Tamaqua Salvation Army during its annual Thanksgiving distribution held Monday.

Volunteers with the Salvation Army and Schuylkill Carbon Marine Corps League helped in yesterday's effort."Our Salvation Army provides food year round to families in need," said Major Sharon Whispell, Tamaqua Salvation Army. "During the holidays, we distribute extra food so families can have a better Thanksgiving."The Salvation Army is still in need of donations for the Christmas distribution. The Salvation Army is also providing local residents the opportunity to share in the joys of Thanksgiving through a free Thanksgiving Day meal. Turkey and all the trimmings will be served Thanksgiving Day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Salvation Army. Local delivery is available for disabled or elderly residents.
