National Recycling Day observed in Walnutport
TERRY AHNER/TIMES NEWS Employees of Advanced Green Solutions in Walnutport lift a floor model television dropped off Tuesday by Emil Solderitz of Slatington (shown in the background) in honor of America Recycles Day.
Those who dropped off their unwanted items at Advanced Green Solutions in Walnutport on Tuesday did in honor of America Recycles Day.
Items may also be dropped off at the business, located at 40 North Street, from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday.
Emil Solderitz of Slatington said he dropped off an old floor model television that he and his wife no longer wished to keep.
"I drove by and seen the sign," Solderitz said. "Me and my wife want to get rid of it because we want to get another television."
Wendy Rodriguez, sales manager, said the first day of the drop-off went about as she expected.
"People are trickling in," Rodriguez said. "Saturday will be better for residents who don't work."
Electronic supplies, such as computers, televisions and VCR's were among the items that had been collected as of that point in time, Rodriguez said.
"We just wanted to give the people an opportunity to recycle cheaper in honor of National Recycling Day," she said. "Typically, people do recycle the most in the spring and fall."
However, Rodriguez noted there is a fee to drop off electronics such as floor copiers, computer monitors CRT, and televisions, as well as appliances such as washers and dryers, dishwashers, stoves, dehumidifiers, air conditioners, floor freezers and refrigerators.
A computer, electronics, and universal waste recycling facility, the company joined thousands of local organizers who held recycling events across the country to celebrate America Recycles Day, the only nationally recognized day dedicated to promoting and celebrating recycling in the United States.
The company held a raffle for a gift basket give away, and accepted items such as desktops; laptops; LCD monitors; keyboards; mice; printers; fax machines; stereos; speaker telephones; cell phones; DVD players, VCR's; UPS battery backups; microwaves; small appliances; gaming systems; and bundled cardboard for free.
The purpose of America Recycles Day is to promote the social, environmental and economic benefits for recycling, and to encourage more people to join the movement to create a better natural environment.
