Published November 15. 2011 05:01PM

A Schuylkill County man was jailed over the past weekend for assault stemming from a domestic incident.

State police at Frackville said James B. Keating, 49, of Middleport, was arrested after troopers received a complaint from his wife for an incident at their home that occurred about 11:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 10.

Keating was taken into custody about 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11. When found Keating had a spring-loaded, push button operated knife in his possession, which is considered a prohibited offensive weapon. The victim did not require medical attention. Troopers also noted Keating did not brandished the knife during the incident.

Keating was arraigned before duty District Judge James Ferrier, of Orwigsburg, on charges of simple assault and the weapons violation. He was committed to the county prison in Pottsville in lieu of $5,000 straight cash bail for the assault count and $1,000 for the weapons charge.
