2 vehicle accident in Tamaqua

A pregnant woman, a child, and three adults escaped serious injury following a two vehicle accident that occurred around 8 p.m. Monday at the Five Points, SR309 and SR209, intersection in Tamaqua. Reportedly, Matthew Melnick, Mary D, driving a tan Kia Sophia east on SR209, drove into the side of a tan Toyota Celica driving south on SR309 by Kenneth Sokolowski, Coaldale. The pregnant woman and young child were also in the Kia, and went to St. Luke's Hospital, Coaldale, as precautionary measures. Responding were Tamaqua Police, East End Fire Company and American Hose Company. Officer Matt Bynon is the investigating officer. The Kia, which was also leaking fluids, had to be towed away. Tamaqua fire police helped police detour traffic during the incident.
