Elementary students in the Jim Thorpe Area School District are hosting their first-ever musical on Friday, "Rockin' America"

The program will be held at 7 p.m. in the Jim Thorpe High School auditorium and feature students in grades kindergarten through sixth.

Directing the musical is Natalie Kmetz, drama director in the school district.

"It's a fun show with a great variety of selections," said Kmetz, who added that proceeds will benefit drama club productions.

Among the selections are "I Am Woman," which was a hit by Helen Reddy; "We Will Rock You," a popular number by the group Queen, and "I Love Rock and Roll" by Joan Jett & the Blackhearts.

There will be a special tribute to veterans, during which the students will sing the Lee Greenwood song, "God Bless the U.S.A."

Assisting Kmetz with choreography are Hailey Hoherchak and Josiah Behrens.
