Monroe teen jailed for assault

A Monroe County teen was jailed on Wednesday, Nov. 2, following a domestic dispute in which he allegedly assaulted a family member.

State police at Fern Ridge responded to 908 Mountain Road, in the Sun Valley development, Effort, in Chestnuthill Township, about 4:30 p.m.

Troopers said Kevin Joseph Shevlin-Smith, 18, confronted Joseph Brian Shevlin, 39, and the two got into a physical altercation. During the altercation the teen grabbed the victim by the neck and attempted to stab him with a pair of kitchen scissors.

The teen cut the victim on his back before being restrained.

The victim suffered a minor injury, troopers said.

The teen was taken into custody and charged with simple assault and harassment and placed in the county jail in Snydersville.
