Bowling/floor hockey volunteers needed

Published November 02. 2011 05:02PM

Special Olympics PA Carbon County is ready to start Bowling and Floor Hockey training for the 2011/2012 season, and is in need of several volunteers to help its athletes during training as well as the day of the competition.

Any time you are able to give is very much appreciated and no experience is necessary. Spending time with its athletes is a very rewarding experience; those who have spent time with these athletes this past year would agree.

The training site for floor hockey will be the Jim Thorpe Memorial Hall Skating Rink, lower level. Training will begin on Monday, Nov. 7, at 6:30 p.m, and is in need of about eight volunteers.

The training site for bowling will be Fritz Lanes in Lehighton, where training will begin Friday, Dec. 2, from 6-8 p.m., as well as Haja Lanes in Palmerton, where training will begin Sunday, Dec. 4 from 3-5 p.m. The Fritz Lanes site is handicapped accessible. Haja Lanes is not handicapped accessible. About 20 volunteers are needed for Fritz Lanes, and 10 for Haja Lanes.

Anyone interested in volunteering may contact Sheri Anthony at (610) 737-0469, or, or Kim Ruch at (610) 826-7824, or
