GAR Cemetery to hold annual tree dedication
Grand Army Cemetery Association will hold its annual tree dedication program led by Board Treasurer Dr. Louis Vermillion on Saturday, May 28, 2011 at 10 a.m. near the garage on the 500 block of East White Street at the upper gate of the cemetery. Following the short program, there will be a complementary walking tour of the grounds in which several veterans interred at the cemetery will be profiled by members of the board of directors.
"Last year we profiled some of the personalities from the Panther Valley area who are buried here," said GAR Board Historian Carol Miller last evening in an interview. "This year we will be focusing on veterans from the various wars who are buried here. Different volunteers and board members will be profiling the various soldiers for visitors."
Come and learn about the veterans from our local area who gave the ultimate sacrifice for us on this tour which will cover much of the beautiful grounds. For more information about the tour, please contact Carol Miller at (570) 645-5998. If you would like to help or volunteer your time, contact GAR President David Wargo at (570) 657-0792. The GAR Cemetery is located on the eastern edge of the Borough of Summit Hill in the 400-500 block of White Street.
