Thorpe legion post sets Memorial Day activities

American Legion Post 304, Jim Thorpe, is hosting the annual Memorial Day parade on Monday, May 30. The parade will start at 10 a.m. at the World War I Monument.

The parade will start from Memorial Park and travel on 10th Street to left onto Center Street and then right onto Ninth Street, where it will stop at the Fairview Hose Company for a memorial service at the World War II Monument. The parade will then continue down North Street to Sixth Street and right onto Center Street to Second Street where it will end.The parade will reform at 10:45 a.m. at Diligent Hose Company, Center Avenue, for a memorial service.The parade will continue down Center Avenue to Walnut Avenue to South Avenue to the Mauch Chunk Cemetery for a memorial service. It will then disband.The parade will reform on West Broadway at 11 a.m., at the Vietnam Memorial for a memorial service. The parade will continue to the Carbon County Civil War Monument for a memorial service.Sunday memorial services will also be held at 9 a.m. at the Liberties Monument and a wreath will be placed at the 903 Bridge at 9:15 a.m. Services will then be held at 9:30 a.m. at the World War I Monument at Memorial Park; at 10 a.m. at Christman's Cemetery, Church Road; at 10:30 a.m. at Henning Cemetery, Albrightsville; at 11 a.m., at Hickory Run State Park Cemetery and at 11:15 a.m., at St. Paul's Church Cemetery, Albrightsville.In addition, on Monday, services will be held at 8:15 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Cemetery; at 8:45 a.m. at Evergreen Cemetery and at 9:10 a.m. at St. Joseph Cemetery.For more information, contact the Legion at (570) 325-4756 after 5 p.m.; or the Carbon County Veterans Affairs Office at (570) 325-3986, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.The public is invited and encouraged to attend any and all of the scheduled events.
