Incumbent Rush Twp. supervisor defeated

A Rush Township incumbent supervisor, who is chairman of the board, lost his bid for another six-year term yesterday.

Stephen W. Simchak lost the Republican nomination to newcomer Jeaninne Motroni, 434-195. There were no Democrats on the ballot, however, there were 138 write-in votes cast on the Demo side meaning someone have captured that nomination. The count of write-in votes will not begin until Friday.Also on the GOP side there were no candidates for auditor but 220 write-in votes were cast.On the Demo side Robert J. Pitts was unopposed and received 182 votes.Here is a rundown of the other local election results.TamaquaOn the GOP side there are four seats up on council and there were four seeking the nod, all incumbents.The vote totals were Kenneth Smulligan 513, Brian Connely 477, Thomas Cara 423, and Stephen Tertel 350. Tertel recently resigned from council because he is leaving the area. The local GOP committee will be given the opportunity to name a candidate to replace Tertel on the November ballot.Richard Hadesty Jr. was unopposed for auditor, six-year term, with 574 votes.There were no Democratic candidates for council with 24 write-in ballots cast. The same is true for auditor.CoaldaleIn Coaldale there was a GOP race for four open council seats, four-year terms, with five names on the ballot.The four winners were Nancy Lorchak 170, Michael J. Doerr 148, Steve Tentylo 140, and Thomas Keerans Sr. 131. Odd man out was Andrew E. Girard with 111.On the Demo side Paul F. Coppie was the lone candidate and received 84 votes. However, there were 64 write-ins cast.New RinggoldIn New Ringgold there are three seats up for election with only two seeking the GOP nod.Elizabeth Blaker Frey and Elena Hendricks each got 24 votes. There were 27 write-ins.There were no Democratic candidates.Mahanoy CityIn Mahanoy City there were four seats on council up for election, four year terms.On the Republican side there were just three candidates seek the nomination. There vote totals were Larry Levy Jr. 189, Kathleen J. McKerns 188 and Earl Heffner 134.For the Democrats there were four candidates for the four seats. The order of finish follows Francis P. Burke 394, Thomas R. Flamini 382, Patti Schnitzius 356, and Robert J. Lewis 356.New PhiladelphiaIn New Philadelphia there are three seats open on council, four-year terms.On the GOP side there were no candidates but 10 write-in votes were cast.On the Demo side there were three candidates for three seats. The order of finish follows Mary L. Shanoskie 146, Edward J. Slane 127 and Debra Smith-Sullivan 93.McAdooIn McAdoo there are four seats up for council, four year terms, and plenty of candidates on both side.Six candidates sought the four nods on the GOP side. The winners were Mary A. Labert 166, William J. Slovik 142, John A. Perhonitch 129 and Lisa A. Klemas 107. Losing out were Edward J. Bielen Sr. 103 and Daniel G. Borchick 79.On the Demo side there were four candidates for the four spots. The order of finish follows Marion DeBalko 181, Rose Ann Lutz 174, Rick SNyder 166 and Marla S. Furlani 165.MiddleportTwo four year seats on council were up for election.The Republicans nominated Thomas J. Vrabel Jr. with 22 votes plus there were 19 write-ins.The Democrats had two candidates for the two spots. The vote totals were Leo J. Oswald 35 and Paul F. Pilconis 24.West Penn TownshipThere was a race for the GOP nomination for a six year term on the board of supervisors.In that race James G. Dean defeated David A. Zeigler, 304 to 268. There were no candidates for auditor but 16 write-in votes were cast.There were no Democratic candidates for supersvor or auditor.Schuylkill TownshipIn Schuylkill Township there are two supervisors' seat up for election one six year term and a four year term.On the GOP side Charles A. Hosler was unopposed for the six year term and received 102 votes and for the four year term Christine Verdier had 107 unopposed votes.On the Demo side there were no candidates for either seat.Walker TownshipIn Walker Township a six year seat on the board of supervisors was up for election. Incumbent Craig Wagner won another term with 165 unopposed Republican votes.There were not Democrats seeking the nod.Ryan TownshipIn Ryan Township a six year term supervisors seat was up for election with David R. Morgan receiving 229 unopposed votes. Daivd J. Kintz Jr. to 214 votes for auditor.There were no Democrats on the ballot.Delano TownshipThere were no candidates for the GOP nod for a six year term for supervisor.On the Demo side Jay Ryan was the lone candidate and got the nod with 53 votes.East Brunswick TownshipIn East Brunswick Township there was a race for the GOP nomination for a six year term on the board of supervisors.Jeffrey Faust defeated Harold Frye Jr. for the post, 139-121.No Democrat sought the position.Blythe TownshipThere were no Republicans seeking the nod for a six year supervisors seat.On the Democratic side Albert J. Lubinsky received the nod with 109 votes.Kline TownshipIn Kline Township there was a race for the GOP nod for a six year term for supervisor.Nicholas Sanko edged by Linda Deganich, 118-114.Eugene Moisey was unopposed for the Democratic nod and got 97 votes.
