Summit Hill, Nesquehoning council races are contested
Democratic races for positions on the Summit Hill and Nesquehoning borough councils highlight Primary Election balloting choices on Tuesday, May 21.
Seven persons are running for the Summit Hill Borough Council and six candidates appear for the Nesquehoning Borough Council. Four four-year terms are open in each borough.
Meanwhile, there are no contests for either the Lansford Borough Council or the Panther Valley School District Board of Education.
Summit Hill race
The borough council race in Summit Hill gives Democrats a choice of four of seven candidates, including Michael L. Alabovitz, 355 E. Fell St., Jesse Walck, 295 E. Mountain Top Road, Francis O'Gorman Jr., 21 E. Holland St., Louis Alexander, 141 W. Hazard St., Michael Kokinda II, 252 E. Hazard St., Karen L. Ruzicka, 144 W. White St., and Thomas A. Tkach, 105 W. Holland St.
There are no Republican candidates.
In Nesquehoning, six Democrats are aspiring to win four nominations. They include Mark W. Stromelo, 20 N. School St., Robert J. Marouchoc, 27 Almond St., Donato P. DeMarco, 29 E. Garibaldi Ave., Michael T. Sniscak Jr., 920 E. Catawissa St., Salvatore A. Digiglio, 35 W. Diaz Ave., and Frank Jacobs, 244 W. Railroad St.
Two Republicans who face no opposition will run against the top four Democrats in November. The GOP candidates are Richard Zabroski, 469 E. Center St., and Michael R. Frey, 224 E. Railroad St.
Nesquehoning voters will also elect a constable for a six-year term. There is only one candidate on either ticket, that being Democrat Regina Kennedy, 265 E. Catawissa St.
There are no contests in the Primary Election in Lansford Borough. In fact, the community lacks sufficient candidates.
Four four-year terms on borough council are up for grabs. There are only three candidates, including Democrats Rose Mary Cannon, 242 W. Ridge St., and Mary Kruczek, 360 W. Ridge St., and Republican Andrew Snyder, 28 Cortright St.
Voters are expected to fill five four-year terms on the Panther Valley School Board. The boroughs of Lansford, Nesquehoning and Summit Hill in Carbon County and Coaldale in Schuylkill County comprise the district.
There are five Democratic candidates and only four Republican candidates, meaning everyone running is unopposed.
Four of the five persons running appear on both ballots. They include Jeffrey Markovich, 324 W. White Bear Drive, Summit Hill, and Anthony DeMarco, 29 E. Garibaldi Ave., William J. Hunsicker Sr., 5 Third Ave., and R. Mickey Angst, 243 W. High St., all of Nesquehoning.
The fifth candidate is Michelle M. Markovich, 324 W. White Bear Drive, Summit Hill, whose name appears only on the Democratic ballot.
