St. John Neumann Regional students show their creativity

St. John Neumann Regional School students have a real flair for the arts.
Students anxiously displayed their artistic talents at the school's annual art show Tuesday at the Palmerton campus.
Artwork was on display from students from both the Palmerton and Slatington campuses as representatives from Chrysler and Rentschler Chevrolet joined with parents and teachers for a Drive for the Kids fundraiser in support of the school.
Riley Zelienka, a seventh-grader who used watercolors to draw a picture of a unicorn and a calendar to draw her outdoors-theme picture, said the art show is an exciting event.
"I take lessons in watercolor, and I do some water drawing at home," Zelienka said. "I like for other people to see my work."
Jacob Martinez, a fourth-grader who painted a snowman and used clay, twigs, paper, candy wrappers and cloth to build a snowman pin, said he enjoys the activity a great deal.
"I think it's really great to have time to show off our art work," Martinez said. "It's a really good thing to do."
Instructor Paula Zelienka said she believes art is "one of the many beneficial subjects in school."
"I think all students need to let their creativity out," Zelienka said. "In each class, we try to teach the basic fundamentals of art."
Rentschler Chevrolet provided minivans and insurance for the event, and volunteers from the dealership were on hand to help out with the fundraising test drives.
Parents and guests who took a brief test drive in the company's minivan, the Chrysler Town & Country, were able to earn a $10 contribution for the school from Chrysler.
In 1993, Chrysler introduced Drive for the Kids and became the first automotive manufacturer to directly support schools in the communities where the company does business.
Since then, dealers like Rentschler Chrysler-Jeep-Dodge in Slatington have worked with parents in communities across the country, and Chrysler has contributed over $3.5 million to local schools.
