Christ Lutheran hosts first May Faire Festival

Christ Lutheran Church held its first annual May Faire Festival titled, "Let Spring Light Your Heart" Saturday. The church is located on Church Road in Penn Forest Township, just off Route 903.

Families feasted on baked goods, barbecued chicken and homemade desserts.Children ran freely on the grounds laughing and dancing with painted faces in between breaks of organized activities. The Faire was open to everyone.Outside vendors purchased spaces to sell flea market items. Coordinator Donna Tweed enlisted her husband, Rick, to be dunked continuously in the dunking booth which he seemed to enjoy. The wind and some rain came later in the day holding off the second May Pole dancing that was scheduled. Earlier several contests were held, including The Best Cake On The Mountain Contest, which was won by Carol Wolfinger. The Best Spring Bonnet was won by Jill Tillney who made it with her mother, who resides in a nursing home at Moravian Square Hall in Nazareth. Her mother was unable to attend the Faire with her, but church youth member Meeghan Rossi loved the bonnet so much she modeled it for the winner.Tracey Hassler, wife of the Rev. John Hassler, pastor of Christ Lutheran Church, said that the event helps to fund a program that assists the community at large."We have a spring and fall fundraiser to help fund community outreach and we thought this would be fun," said Mrs. Hassler. In the past the fund has assisted local families in need and not necessarily within the church family, she said."We've assisted with people who needed help with an electric bill, but also we have helped people far reaching such as Hurricane Katrina."She said they are already thinking turkeys, as in Thanksgiving, and some of the money is used for Thanksgiving help. The next Fun Fundraiser is scheduled for Oct. 1, a pie contest and a scarecrow contest is planned.
