An America Red Cross Bloodmobile will be held May 25 in Tamaqua. St. John United Church of Christ, Pine and Biddle streets, will serve as the collection site. Hours will be from 1-6 p.m.

Anyone 17 or older, who weighs at least 110 pounds and is in general good health is eligible to donate blood. Each unit of donated blood has the potential to help save three lives. Donor cards or proper identification will be required.

Donors may make an appointment by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS.

Student recognition

Tickets are still available for the 53 annual Tamaqua Student Achievement Dinner, sponsored by the Tamaqua Area Student Achievement Committee. The event will be held May 16 in the Tamaqua Area Elementary School.

Dinner will be served at 6 p.m. Arrangements will be made for those who wish to attend the awards ceremony only.

St. Jerome's

The St. Jerome's Regional Religious Education Office will be offering summer sessions to students in grades seven and eight, as well as the annual Summer Vacation Bible School for ages four to fifth grade.

The classes for older students will be held July 18 through Aug. 12. The first session will be based on the New Testament, July 18-22 and July 25-29, from 9 a.m. to noon. The second session will be Aug. 1-5 and Aug. 8-12, from 8 a.m. to noon.

Registration forms will be mailed to students who were enrolled in the Religious Education Program during the 2010-2011 school year. For interested students not enrolled, registration forms are available by calling (570) 668-4416.

Vacation Bible School will be held June 27 through July 1, from 9 a.m. to noon. Registration forms are available in the religious education office.

New student registration for CCD classes for the 2011-2012 school year will be held Aug. 9 and Aug. 12. A parent meeting will be held Aug. 10 at 6 p.m. Classes will begin Sept. 11.

Zion Lewistown

A combined service will be held this Mother's Day. Members of Zion Church of the Lewistown Valley will travel to Christ Church, McKeansburg, for the 10 a.m. worship service. Breakfast will be served from 8 to 9:30 a.m.

The Zion's Youth Group will meet May 13, from 7-9 p.m., in Zion's social hall.

Fitness for Friends, a community exercise class, meets Mondays and Thursdays, 6-7 p.m., in the social hall.

First UM

There has been a correction to the time set for the Charge Conference in First United Methodist Church. The conference will begin at 7 p.m. on May 10.

Class of 1961

The Tamaqua Class of 1961 will hold its 50th anniversary reunion on Aug. 6.

Class of 2011

Parents of the Tamaqua Class of 2011 will conduct a used clothing drive the weekend of May 7-8.

Donated items are to be dropped off at the Citizen's Fire Company, Rowe Street, between the hours of noon and 3 p.m.

Items which may be donated include: wearable, usable clothing; shoes, belts and handbags; coats, hats and gloves; bed and bath linens; stuffed animals and toys.

All items must be packaged in plastic garbage bags. Shoes should be in a separate bag.
