Borger earns Freedom Player of Week award

Published March 29. 2011 05:00PM

Wilkes University freshman softball player Jordan Borger, a graduate of Pleasant Valley and Kunkletown native, has been named Freedom Conference Player of the Week.

Borger collected six hits in seven at-bats in the doubleheader against Delaware Valley on March 21, as the Lady Colonels split with the Aggies. Three of Borger's hits went for extra bases, including a solo home run in the sixth inning of game two, the first of her career.

With Wilkes down 7-6 with a runner on in the seventh inning of the game one comeback win, Borger nearly ended it with a line drive that just missed going over the fence, as the ball hit just a foot or two from the top. She would later score the game-winning run on a single by Jackie Follweiler, a Northern Lehigh graduate.

In total, Borger went 6-for-7 with two doubles, a home run, three RBI and four runs scored in the twinbill.

For the season she's hitting .393 in 10 starts, leading the team with four doubles, seven RBI and a .643 slugging percentage.
