Harhart says budget proposal responds to fiscal realities of Pennsylvania

Published March 21. 2011 05:00PM

Rep. Julie Harhart (R-Northampton/Lehigh) issued the following statement in response to the first budget proposal put forward by Gov. Tom Corbett:

"Families all across Pennsylvania have had to tighten their belts and find ways to live within their means. Government must do the same. Yet, over the past eight years, state spending continued to increase every year to unsustainable levels.

"While I am concerned with the amount of reduction in funding to support higher education in Pennsylvania, I am pleased that this budget contains no new taxes and fees and works to limit government spending.

"Due to the over-reliance on one-time revenue sources, such as federal stimulus dollars, the Commonwealth is forced to rein in excessive spending.

"I look forward to working with my colleagues and the administration to create a fair and responsible spending plan that provides for essential government services and puts Pennsylvania on the road to economic recovery and fiscal stability."
