One teen was killed and five other persons were injured, two seriously, in a one vehicle early Sunday morning crash in Schuylkill County. State police at Schuylkill Haven said the accident occurred about 3:27 a.m. in the area of 50 Hickory Road, in Washington Township.

Troopers said a 17-year-old teen from Pine Grove was driving a 1997 Ford Explorer westbound when it began to slide as he attempted to negotiate a sharp right hand turn. The vehicle slid in a clockwise direction traveling across both lanes of travel.

The Ford then began to flip onto the driver's side, going onto the berm with the rear roof area striking a tree on the south side. After impact with the tree the front windshield struck a second tree.

Troopers said Brynan Bell, 16, of Pine Grove, a rear seat passenger behind the driver, died in the crash. He was not wearing a seat belt.

A 16-year-old teen from Pine Grove, riding in the cargo area, was severely injured and flown to the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. Joseph Eck, 18, of Pine Grove, a rear seat passenger not belted, was severely injured and flown to the Hershey Medical Center.

The teen driver and two other male juvenile passengers, no ages given, were transported by ambulance to a Pottsville hospital. They were treated and released.

The investigation into the crash is continuing.
