Terry L. Costenbader, 645 Columbia Ave., Palmerton, has announced his candidacy for re-election to the Palmerton Borough Council. A Republican, he is seeking his party's nomination in the May 17 Primary Election.

Costenbader, 68, is the current president of the council, having served in that position for the past 10 years. He is in his 16th year on the council.

A lifelong resident of the community, he is a son of the late Bruce and Lillie (Bollinger) Costenbader and is married to the former Nancy Derewiany of Palmerton.

The couple has two daughters, Lisa, wife of Ed Shellhammer of Towamensing Township, and Denise, wife of Jim Schreiber of Eldred Township; and three grandchildren, Gwen Shellhammer and Riley and Collin Schreiber.

A 1960 graduate of Palmerton High School, he attended the former Bethlehem Business School before entering the Army, where he served from 1964-66, including service in Vietnam.

After his honorable discharge, he returned home to continue working in the family business, Costenbader Plumbing and Heating, Palmerton.

A third generation plumbing and heating businessman, he actually started working in the business at the age of 12 and worked in it for 34 years, succeeding his father and grandfather in its operation until his retirement in 2000.

Costenbader is a member of Middlecreek Christian Church, Kresgeville.

An avid hunter and fisherman, he also belongs to the Palmerton Fishing and Hunting Association and the Pacemakers Association, an antique car club that raises money for recreational opportunities for youths in the Palmerton area.
