Kelsey Ann Fisher, 17, a senior at Pleasant Valley High School, was named the first runner-up in the regional competition of the Poetry Out Loud contest held at the Baum School of Art in Allentown. She gave her recitation of "The Canonization" written by John Donne (1633) at a PVSD school board meeting and received rousing applause. After graduation, Kelsey will be majoring in English at Marlboro College in Vermont where she plans on receiving a MFA in poetry. She says of her Poetry Out Loud experience that it wasn't about winning. She says last year's winner said, "'You have to find the heart beat of the poet and that's when the poem comes to life.' That's what I want to evoke when I recite a poem."
