Coaldale man charged with stealing a parrot
A Coaldale man faces burglary and related charges after allegedly stealing a parrot.
Jonathan Allen Butruch, 28, whose last known address is 274 Third Street, also faces charges of criminal trespass, receiving stolen property and theft by unlawful taking.
According to an affidavit of probable cause filed with District Judge Stephen Bayer of Tamaqua, here's what happened:
Coaldale Officer Scott D. Cramer was dispatched to 274 Third St.. at 2:56 a.m. Feb. 17 on a report of a stolen parrot. Upon his arrival, Wendy Vachon said her ex-boyfriend, Butruch, came into the house and stole the bird.
A Kayla Leibowitz was in the house at about 2:35 a.m. when she heard their dogs barking. She came downstairs, thinking that her mother, Vachon, had stopped back at the house. As she was coming down the steps, she yelled out a couple of hello's, but there was no response.
When she got downstairs, Butruch was standing in the living room, holding the bird in his hand. He asked her where her mother was and who she was on the phone with. Leibowitz said she was scared and went back upstairs, where her sister was already informing the mother that Butruch was in the house.
When Vachon arrived at the house 3-5 minutes later, Butruch was gone and the bird was missing.
Butruch had been living in the house, but had moved out several months ago. His current address is unknown.
