Rig crashes along I81 in Schuylkill

Published March 03. 2011 05:00PM

State police at Frackville reported investigating a crash involving a tractor with trailer crash along Interstate 81 in Foster Township, Schuylkill County, that occurred about 12:57 a.m. on Tuesday, March 1.

Troopers said Antonio Hamer, 27, of Lake View, S.C., was operating a 2010 International ProStar truck-tractor with 2011 Wabash van northbound when the rig traveled onto the left berm and struck a metal guard rail.

The rig continued along the rail for about 350 feet and then traveled down an embankment about 80 feet between the north and southbound lanes. The rig then rolled over onto its roof and came to rest facing north in a small stream.

Hamer was injured and taken to the Schuylkill Medical Center-S. Jackson St., Pottsville. The left lane of I81 was closed for several hours to clean debris from the wreckage. Workers will return Wednesday to remove the truck from the scene, troopers added.

Assisting troopers were personnel from PennDOT and the Department of Environmental Protection and fire company volunteers from Frackville.
