Tamaqua stays alive in 11-12 tournament

Tamaqua stayed alive, while Weatherly and Towamensing headed for the losers bracket in the District 18 11-12 Little League tournament.

Justin Fisher pitched a complete game and helped Freeland top Weatherly, 17-0 in a second-round matchup.

Fisher allowed just one hit in his four innings of work.

Weatherly's only hit came off of the bat of Chris MacNeil. MacNeil doubled down the left field line in the fourth inning.

Three days after failing to score a single run against Hazle Township, the Tamaqua bats exploded for 18 runs in a win over Anthracite in the losers' bracket.

Five Tamaqua pitchers combined for a two-hitter.

Eddie Titus and Brady Akins each hit home runs in the second inning for Tamaqua. Titus connected for a two-run shot, while Akins later went deep with a three-run homer. They both ended the night 2-for-3.

Tamaqua's Tanner Hamm (3-for-3) and Billy Derr (3-for-4, 3 RBIs) each collected three hits. Teammates Teague Schmidt and Ethan Kuzcynski had multiple hits as well.

Valley East knocked off Towamensing in its second-round contest, 11-0 in four innings.

Mike Stasko and Danny Nicololo each had a hit and stolen base for Towamensing while Ryan Yacone added a hit.

District 18 9-10

Tamaqua Whit


Lansford scored twice in the first and third innings and went on to eliminate Tamaqua White from the 9-10 tournament, 4-2.

Wyatt Zimmerman pitched four shutout innings for Lansford. His teammates Tristan Blasico (two singles and a double) and Mason Goida (two singles) each had multiple hits.

Greg Davis led the way for Tamaqua. He had a triple and two RBIs on the night. Billy Frederick also had two hits.

Kemp Birches

The Birches scored a run in the fifth to take a 32- win over Kemp Post in a Norco Legion contest on Monday night.

Tommy Agosta went three-for-three with a single, double, triple and scored a run with one RBI for the Birches (12-6). John Guadagna went two-for three and scored a run.

Russell Baldino got a complete game win giving up just two earned runs, while striking out six.
