McLaughlin named acting superintendent at Weatherly
A Tamaqua resident has been named acting superintendent of schools by the Weatherly Area School Board.
Thomas McLaughlin, who currently serves as principal of Weatherly High School, was named by the board to take over the position being vacated by Frank Victor. The action came at last night's meeting of the school board.
The board sought to reappoint Victor, whose three year term expires on June 30, but could not when the superintendent announced he was not going to renew his certificate with the state to be a superintendent.
Victor said he was not renewing the certificate because he was going to retire. However, he will continue with the district as an administrative assistant under a 60 day contract. He will assist in the principal's position, which he is also certified, until Sept. 1, the date of his retirement.
McLaughlin with take over as acting superintendent as of June 30 at the same salary and benefits he is currently being paid.
The board indicated it would begin a search for a new superintendent. It is not known if McLaughlin, who is certified to be a superintendent, will seek the position fulltime.
