Chestnuthill Township Historical Society is looking for members
The Chestnuthill Township Historical Society (CTHS) is in its infancy but it is hoping to grow up big and strong. In order to do that, it needs more members. It is looking for people who live in the township, has ties to the township, can trace family from the township or folks who just want to be a part of preserving the history of the West End.
Dave Fleetwood, a member of the CTHS, says they have finalized its constitution and by-laws. At the last meeting on June 15, Jim Wilson gave a presentation with a map of the Chestnuthill area dating from the mid 1800s and compared it to a may of the same area today. Fleetwood says that they hope to have a speaker at every meeting.
One of the goals of CTHS is to restore the old Merwinsburg Hotel to its former glory. To that end, Work Days are held frequently. Volunteers are needed and the next Work Day is Saturday, June 25 from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. and bring rakes and shovels.
Fleetwood says the CTHS will not have a regular meeting again until Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. at the Chestnuthill Twp. Park Building, Rt. 715, Brodheadsville. Starting in September, they will meet the third Wednesday of every month.
