About 3:58 p.m. Kendra M. Heffner, 43, of Pine Grove, was stopped on SR443 while eastbound at Harvey Drive, in Washington Township, waiting to make a left turn onto Harvey. Troopers said Brian D. Welsh, 36, of Pottsville, was eastbound at the time and looked away and did not see Heffner stopped. He then realized the vehicle was stopped ahead of him and swerved into the oncoming lane to avoid a collision. His 2004 Chevrolet Silverado truck struck a westbound 2006 Volvo XC70 driven by Michael A. Glass, 50, of Jonestown. After impact the Silverado slid onto the shoulder while the Volvo slid past Heffner's 2008 Chevrolet Equinox and spun about 210 degrees counter-clockwise, coming to rest straddling the center yellow line.Glass was trapped in his vehicle and had to be extricated by rescue personnel. He was taken by ambulance to the Hershey Medical Center. Welsh and Heffner were not injured. Troopers said Frank Rodriguez, 48, of Paxinos, Northumberland County, was northbound and swerved to avoid a deer on the road. His 2007 Hummer H3 traveled about 28 feet along the berm and then struck an embankment with the right front end. After striking the embankment the vehicle continued to travel north about 30 feet along the berm striking several large rocks with the undercarriage and then a road sign. After impact with the sign the vehicle continued north for 34 feet and re-entered the travel lane. The Hummer then flipped about one and a half times and spun in a counter-clockwise direction for 36 feet before landing on the driver's side facing west on the concrete median.Rodriguez had to be extricated from the vehicle and taken to the Schuylkill Medical Center East, Pottsville. Traffic had to be detoured for about an hour.Damages were severe to the Hummer, troopers said.
