John E. Stanko Sr. of Lansford will celebrate his 90th birthday on June 7.

He is the son of the late August and Pauline (Skrovanek) Stanko.He has a sister Ann living in Allentown. A brother Joe and two sisters, Elizabeth and Margaret, are deceased.John is married to the former Nora Mattras. They celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary in November.He is the father of three sons: John and his wife Louise (Benek), Rick and his wife Mary (Kershaw) and Dave and his wife Theresa (Cerimele); and the grandfather of 10: John, Timothy, Patrick, David, Rachael, Laura, Peter, Bernedette, Zach and Sam.He served for three years as an S/SGT in World War II with the 87th Infantry Division fighting in the Battle of the Bulge.He was one of the founders of the Lansford Little League and served as an officer in that organization for 18 years. He also served as Lansford's tax collector from 1962 to 1982.His hobbies include reading and watching sports, especially the Philadelphia Phillies.
