A youngster was struck by a vehicle and seriously injured. State police at Schuylkill Haven said the accident occurred about 11:15 a.m. on Saturday, July 23, along Market St., in Port Carbon, Schuylkill County.

Troopers said an 11-year-old female attempted to cross the street and was struck by a GMC Sierra driven by Kelly L. Lipshaw, 40, of Port Carbon. The right side of the GMC made contact with the female.

The girl, whose name was not released by troopers, was taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, with what was termed major injuries. Lipshaw immediately stopped and rendered aid, troopers noted.

Troopers also reported investigating a crash about 10:15 a.m. on Saturday along Mexico Road, just west of SR501, in Pine Grove Township. Troopers said Christopher A. Stevenson, 36, of Richland, Lebanon County, was eastbound in a 2002 Mazda Protege when a deer entered the road in front of him. Stevenson attempted to avoid the deer. His vehicle left the road and struck an embankment along the south berm.

The car then traveled up the side of the embankment and came to rest on the driver's side on the road. Stevenson and his passenger, Beth Goodman, 27, of Harrisburg, were not injured.

A one vehicle crash occurred about 8:21 p.m. on Saturday along Schuylkill Mountain Road, in Wayne Township. Troopers said Stephanie M. Hillbish, 19, of Schuylkill Haven, was driving a 1994 Volkswagen Jetta eastbound when the vehicle went onto the south berm for about 54 feet before striking a utility pole.

Hillbish sustained a minor injury and was taken to the Schuylkill Medical Center-E. Norwegian St., Pottsville, for treatment. Trooper said she was cited for driving on roadways laned for traffic.
