Packer Township man injured after he's thrown from backhoe

A Carbon County man was seriously injured Sunday morning when he was thrown from a backhoe he was operating and trapped beneath a portion of the unit. The incident occurred at 11:30 a.m. in the 5400 block of Quakake Road in Packer Township. State police at Hazleton report Thomas Titus, 70, was "bounced" off the piece of equipment and was trapped under the unit by his lower extremities. He was treated at the scene then flown via Medevac helicopter to the Lehigh Valley Hospital in Salisbury Township.
