Bridge at Tuscarora Park is scout's Eagle project
SPECIAL TO THE TIMES NEWS Steven Christ stands on the bridge that he constructed at Tuscarora Park as part of his Eagle Scout project.
Tuscarora State Park now has a new bridge built by Eagle Scout Steven Christ, of Hometown.
"I wanted to build this bridge because it would help out hikers and recreational walkers get into the back of Tuscarora Park," said Christ.
Christ, who is a member of Boy Scout Troop 783, spent a month planning the bridge and all of its specifications and then completed the project in two days. The new bridge spans the Locust Creek, located on the Spirit of Tuscarora Trail.
"The most rewarding part of this experience was walking across the bridge at the end," he said. "Just the feeling of accomplishing a task for other people is a reward in itself."
Christ, who completed the bridge for his Eagle Scout project, selected Tuscarora State Park because of childhood memories.
"I chose Tuscarora for the project because I always went fishing there with my dad as a kid," he said. "The fun memories made the setting perfect."
Christ is member of the Black Rock District of Hawk Mountain Council.
He is the son of Mark and Audrey Christ, of Hometown.
