Riding on a classic moped
ANDREW LEIBENGUTH/TIMES NEWS David Kern of Tamaqua proudly rides his 88 pound 1977 Motobecane 50 Mobylette moped on Center Street in Tamaqua.
David Kern of Tamaqua is proud of his 88 pound 1977 Motobecane 50 Mobylette moped, which he can ride like a bicycle or via its 49 cc 6 volt engine. In the '70s, moped makers kept the engine specs below 50 cc so people could ride without a required state license. Kern said it listed for $500 in 1977, but feels it's worth much more today. He hopes to have it featured on American Pickers, a popular collectors' road show.
