Clothes swap for Pleasant Valley dress code items to be held in August

Penny Derr, principal of Pleasant Valley Elementary School announced at the Pleasant Valley School District's school board meeting that there will be a Clothing Swap of PV dress code items on Saturday, Aug. 20 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at PVE.

This will give parents a chance to save money on clothing items that their children have outgrown and can replace with sizes that fit.

The treasurer's report was approved with a vote 8-1 with board member Harvey Frable absent and James Spinola voting "No."

Board member President Susan Kresge and MiChelle Palmer were appointed voting delegates to the PSBA Legislative Policy Council.

Dr. Douglas Arnold, PVSD superintendent, reported that currently there are 300 children registered for kindergarten this fall. He says that number could rise to about 320-325.

James Spinola was the only "No" vote in approving policy revisions.

Dr. Arnold said that PVSD third graders raised $711.60 to be donated to the National Kidney Foundation.

The board approved to enter into agreement with Schneider Electric to perform an Investment Grade Audit for the purpose of developing a performance contract to reduce the school district's energy usage. The exit fee of this audit would be $85,000 if the school district would decide not to move forward with the performance contract. There is no cost if the performance contract executing the engineered energy savings is done.

The board approved 9-0:

*hiring Michael Walters as computer technician, effective Aug. 1, at an annual salary of $31,349 prorated. (Replacement position for Ted Reinmiller.)

*hiring Loretta Bretzger, at a salary of $40,900, as replacement for Marissa McKenna, 8th grade English teacher, PVMS.

*hiring Jeffrey Cangialosi, Laura Catina (retroactive to June 27, 2011), Christopher Negron for summer computer technicians, effective June 30, 2011 at an hourly rate of $10.47.

*hiring as substitutes-Candance Ladlee-Goucher, as an elementary/special education teacher; Jeffrey Cangialosi and Laura Catina as computer technicians; Tina Martin, paraprofessional associate/monitor/secretary/custodian; Shanna Mills, professional associate; Christopher Negron, computer technician; Christopher Brugman, custodian.

*transfers-Sandy Kaspszyk, instructional support teacher from Polk/PVE/Chestnuthill to PVE/Chestnuthill, effective beginning of 2011-2012 school year; Cindy Johnson, secretary from PVE to PVI and Penny Green, secretary from PVI to PVE, effective July 18, 2011.

*hiring Talitha Graham, science, Shavonne Liddic, mathematics and Danielle Unger, English, for two 30 hours sessions for high school summer school.

*Lindsay Monks as JV football cheering adviser; James DeVivo as music honor society adviser; James Shay as assistant JV field hockey coach and James Ward as freshman football volunteer coach.

*letter of resignation from Tina Martin from position of high school paraprofessional associate effective Aug. 22, 2011.

*to purchase 125 Cyber School in a Box bundles for PV Cyber Academy for 2011-2012 school year at a cost of $4,250 per bundle for a total of $531,250.

The board approved the following contracts 9-0:

*Colonial Intermediate Unit 20 at a cost not to exceed $1,600 for Train-the-Trainer Professional Development effective June 28, 2011

*Pennsylvania State Police to provide a school resource officer and additional extra-duty police presence at various events for 2011-2012 school year

*Behavioral Health Associates and PVSD for education services at a cost of $89 a day regular education and $125/day special education, effective for 2011-2012 school year. No increase from last year.

A bid award for musical instruments was approved for National Educational Music Co.-$15,246; The Woodwind/Brasswind-$2,660; Washington Music Center-$1,052. Full bid tabulations available to review in the business office.
